Can I Swap My Driving Test With Someone?

A plain-English explanation of who can swap a practical car test, the two-way compatibility rule and what both learners must check.

01

Yes—if both bookings are compatible

DVSA permits eligible learners to exchange practical car test bookings by phone. Each learner must want the other person's exact booking.

The swap must meet the timing, test-type, location and remaining-change requirements for both learners. A one-way preference is not enough.

02

What both learners should check

Before accepting a proposal, each learner should confirm all of the following.

  • The proposed date, time and centre are correct.
  • The test types are compatible.
  • Each learner has at least one permitted change remaining.
  • There are at least 10 full working days before the earliest test.
  • The location rule works for both bookings.
  • Both learners and their instructors can make the proposed date.
03

The official swap is by phone

MoveMyTest helps learners find and privately agree a compatible proposal. It does not alter either booking. The official security checks and booking updates are completed by DVSA.

Questions learners ask

Can my instructor complete the swap for me?

The learner must manage their own booking and take part in the official DVSA process. An instructor can help assess readiness and availability.

Can I swap without an existing booking?

No. A learner-to-learner swap requires both learners to already hold a suitable booking.
