Answers without the runaround.
Answers for learners, instructors and anyone curious about how MoveMyTest works, what DVSA expects, and how we keep your details safe.
Getting started
What is MoveMyTest?▼
MoveMyTest is a free, privacy-first matching service that helps learner drivers find another learner who may want to exchange an existing DVSA practical car test booking. We do not book tests, change bookings or charge fees.
Who can use MoveMyTest?▼
Learner drivers with an existing practical car test booking in England, Scotland or Wales. Driving instructors can also register to see proposed swaps for pupils linked to their ADI number.
Is MoveMyTest free?▼
Yes. Learner matching is currently free. There is no card, subscription or success fee. Optional contributions help cover hosting and email costs, but donations do not affect matching or access.
Do I need an account?▼
Yes. You create a free account, verify your email and then list the details of the test you want to swap. We never ask for your driving licence number, theory certificate number, home address or payment card.
The match process
How does a match happen?▼
Our match engine compares your listing with active listings and screens the details against the published booking-category, 10-full-working-day and location rules. A proposal is not DVSA approval; DVSA makes the final decision during the phone process.
What can I see before I accept?▼
You see the other learner’s current test centre, date, time and test type, plus what they are looking for. Contact details are not shown. Booking references stay hidden until both learners accept and separately confirm they are ready for the DVSA phone process.
Can I decline a match?▼
Yes. Either learner can decline or report a match at any time before booking references are shared. A declined match is final for that pairing.
What happens after both learners accept?▼
Each learner confirms their booking reference and one volunteers to call. That learner calls DVSA; DVSA checks them, puts them on hold and calls the other learner on the phone number held for their booking.
How do I complete the official swap?▼
One learner calls DVSA customer services on 0300 200 1122 and selects option 2. DVSA checks that learner, puts them on hold and calls the other learner on the number held for their booking. MoveMyTest is not on the call and cannot do this for you.
What if DVSA refuses the swap?▼
DVSA may refuse if location rules, remaining changes or the 10 working day rule are not met. If that happens, both learners keep their original bookings. You can then update your listing and wait for another match.
Privacy & safety
What details should I never share?▼
Never share your driving licence number, theory certificate number, home address, payment card details, card security code or GOV.UK login details with another learner. DVSA will ask for the booking references directly during the phone call.
When are booking references shared?▼
Only after both learners accept a proposed match and explicitly consent while they are ready for the DVSA phone process. They are never shown publicly or in search results.
Is my data sold or shared?▼
No. MoveMyTest does not sell data. We only use the minimum information needed for matching, notifications and keeping your account secure. See our Privacy Policy for full details.
Can someone scam me through MoveMyTest?▼
MoveMyTest never asks for money to match you and never handles the official swap. If anyone asks for payment, your licence number or GOV.UK login, report it and stop the conversation. The real swap happens directly with DVSA.
DVSA rules & edge cases
Can I swap any type of test?▼
The live workflow is for practical car tests in England, Scotland and Wales. Test types must match exactly: weekday standard, evening/weekend/bank holiday, extra-time/special-requirements, or extended variants.
What is the 10 full working day rule?▼
The swap request must be made at least 10 full working days before the earlier of the two tests. Monday to Saturday count as working days; Sundays and public holidays do not.
What changed on 9 June 2026?▼
For car tests, both learners must be swapping to a centre that is either the same centre, one of the 3 nearest centres, or the centre originally booked for their current test. This applies to both sides of the match.
Can I use MoveMyTest in Northern Ireland?▼
MoveMyTest lists Northern Ireland centres, but live DVA/nidirect swap matching is disabled until the DVA process is confirmed. You can still browse NI centres and pass rates.
What if my instructor disagrees with the swap?▼
An instructor cannot block a swap directly, but they can see proposed changes on their dashboard and tell their pupil whether the new slot fits lessons, readiness or diary. The final decision is always the learner’s.
