How to Get an Earlier Driving Test Date

Legitimate ways to look for an earlier UK practical car test, including learner-to-learner swaps, official changes and the checks to make before accepting a date.

01

Start with the test you already have

A driving test swap is not a cancellation. Two learners exchange their existing practical car test bookings because each prefers the other learner's exact date, time and centre.

Keep your current booking while you search. A possible earlier date is only useful if it meets the official rules, your instructor is available and you will be ready to take the test.

02

The legitimate routes

There are three sensible ways to look for a better date without buying or reselling a test slot.

  • Check the official GOV.UK service for a date you can move to.
  • Use a private learner-to-learner matching service to look for a mutually compatible swap.
  • Ask your instructor whether another date and test centre would work for your readiness and their diary.
03

Check a proposed earlier date carefully

Both learners need an eligible practical car test, a remaining permitted change and enough working days before the earliest test. The test type and location rules must work in both directions.

MoveMyTest filters obvious incompatibilities, but DVSA makes the official decision during the phone process.

Questions learners ask

Does MoveMyTest guarantee an earlier date?

No. A swap depends on another learner having a date you want and wanting the exact booking you already hold.

Can I buy someone else's test slot?

MoveMyTest does not sell test slots. It facilitates a mutual learner-to-learner exchange completed officially with DVSA.
